NIGERIA : First Deepwater, First Bank Lead Women's Basketball League

The defending champions of the Zenith Bank Women's Basketball League, Lagos-based First Deepwater and city rivals, First Bank, topped their groups at the end of the Phase One of the competition.
The nine-day competition dunked off at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Abuja National Stadium on March 23 with 16 teams.
The ninth edition of the league has 10 regular teams, six new entrants and ended on Easter Sunday.
After all the matches played during Phase One, First Deepwater and First Bank led Group A and B respectively with 14 points each.
First Deepwater led Group A which had Sunshine Queens of Akure who had 12 points from five wins, while new entrant, GT-2000 of Kaduna came third with 12 points also.
Nigeria Customs of Lagos placed fourth after four wins to get 11 points, while FCT Angels trailed them in the fifth position also with 11 points.
AHIP Queens of Kano occupy the sixth position with 9 points from two wins, while new entrants, Taraba Hurricanes and Coal City Queens of Enugu are seventh and eight respectively.
In Group B, last year's runners-up and former champions, First Bank is on top with 14 points ahead of Dolphins of Lagos who have 13 points from six wins.
Plateau Rocks of Jos and new entrant, IGP Queens of Lagos, placed third and fourth respectively with 11 points each from four wins.
Another new entrant, Benue Princess, placed fifth with 10 points from three wins while Delta Queens emerged sixth position after three wins.
New comer, Oluyole Babes of Ibadan finished seventh with eight points after one win, while Nigeria Immigration Service of Kano placed eight with seven points.
The phase one, which ended on March 31, will be followed by Phase Two scheduled for May 2 to 16 in Asaba.
The final phase, which is the Final Eight Play-offs to determine the league champions, will hold in Lagos from June 7 to 16.
