Lions continued with their impressive start to the Kenya Basketball Federation Premier League when they beat Ulinzi Warriors 84-73 at the Nyayo Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.
The win means that Lions are still unbeaten in the 2013 season despite losing their sponsors Kenya Commercial Bank earlier in the year. Ulinzi kicked of the match on a high note taking the 1st quarter with 21 points while Lions sunk in 14 points.
The 2nd quarter saw reversed roles as Lions overcame their opponents with 20 points against 15 to put the half time scores at 36-34 in favor of Ulinzi. Lions dominated in the subsequent quarters with 21 points in the 3rd quarter while Ulinzi had 12 points and in the last quarter they managed to get 29 points against Ulinzi’s 25 to take the day.
Chiza Aristote was in superb form as he gave Lions 20 points from the match while Ancentas Wafula who captained Kenya in the Zone 5 African Cup of Nations qualifiers in January hit 19 points with 9 of those coming from the 3 points shots. William Ochieng who was impressive for the military side was in a class of his own sinking in 26 points, the highest in the match followed by Tiberus Menya who had 11 points.
The loss to Lions must be disappointing to Eliud Nzioka’s side having lost to Mombasa based KPA in their first match of the season.
