KENYA : KPA Coach clarifies on decision to drop players

Updated on 12/04/13 | By BRIAN AYIEKO

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) basketball team coach Antony Ojuku has categorically stated that the decision to drop players who are not from Mombasa by the team was a decision taken by the team’s management and not the technical bench.
Speaking to michezoafrika.com, Ojuku stated that KPA’s management saw the logistical costs were a bit expensive for them to handle, “every time there was a game we had to facilitate on how they (players) would link up with the rest of the players in Mombasa, whether we were playing at home or away and the management felt it was expensive to do that. As a coach I can’t do anything about it even though I understand that they are top quality players who played a key role in our matches last season.”
The affected players included point guard Alex Lugasi, his brother Fred Lugasi and Martin Kitongo all from Western while Patrick Kirui hailed from Nairobi.
