Zimbabwe: Buz Moulding Referees

THE Basketball Union of Zimbabwe has embarked on a referees development programme with a Level One referees clinic currently underway in Bulawayo in an effort to prepare them for international courses.
The clinic began on Tuesday with 15 participants from Masvingo, Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South and Bulawayo taking part at Evelyne High School and ends today.
The three-day clinic is being conducted by international instructorsForbes Shuva and Joyce Mucheni.
Buz competitions director, Simon Lawson said the clinic is targeting participants from the Southern region and they will be holding another clinic in Marondera for the Northern region next week.
"We started on Tuesday with 15 participants from four provinces. Midlands were the only province that did not turn up.
"We divided the provinces into Southern and Northern region and this one is for the Southern region.
"The next one will be for the Northern region in Marondera with Harare, Mashonaland East, Manicaland, Mashonaland West and Central taking part.
"We were trying to make it easy for everyone because someone from Matabeleland North cannot afford to come to Marondera.
"We want to have three more international referees and this is where we are preparing them for the international course.
"We are starting at national level and when we go for the zonal we would have chosen the best. After the zonal one those that would have passed would go for the international course.
"We proposed to host the zonal course sometime in June, the last time we hosted the Zone Six was in 2006 December," said Lawson.
Lawson said the course is focusing on the rules and regulations of the game.
"Basically the clinic is focusing on the whole rule book, there are 12 topics including violation, fouls and interpretation of the rules. They will go through a theory test and then the physical fitness test which is a must pass for everyone," said Lawson.
