NIGERIA : I'm Impressed With Zenith League - Hajiya Zainab
One of Nigeria's veterans in basketball, Hajiya Zainab Abubakar has scored the ongoing Zenith National Women's League in Abuja high.
She said from what she has seen from the phase 1 hostilities, the game of basketball in the women's category has improved.
According to her, before now the level of patronage and awareness in the women's game has increased.
The former national team player who was last week inducted into Fiba Africa Hall of Fame for her meritorious services to the nation in basketball the current NBBF board under Tijjani Umar has helped to regain back its lost glory.
"I am impressed with the league to be honest. Before now no women league but now it has come up with tremendous improvement.
In fact we have regained the lost glory under this board."
She said she disagrees with the notion that it is below standard because of the quality of newer teams in the league. "I disagree that it is below standard.
The new teams need this exposure and experience and give them 2 years, they will improve. Very soon the older players will be threatened by the younger ones coming up.
The older players must know that they should brace up because these young ones will soon take over and if they don't tighten up, they will be disgraced.
In fact we need more teams in the league and I am planning to start a team to join the league." She revealed.
