KENYA : Ulinzi Blades Told to Start Off At Provincial Level

FORMER Premier League side Ulinzi Blades must start off their campaign at the provincial level, a top Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) official directed.
George 'Nyundo' Omondi, the KBF first vice chairman, told a team managers' meeting that there is no way the team can return to the top level after they pulled out in 2004 because slots in the league are already filled up. He explained that because there were already 12 teams as stipulated in the rules, there is no room for an additional team thus the Ulinzi side can only start playing at the provincial league this year. "You pulled out of the league and you must start at the provincial league and that is the position because we have no slots at the moment for any Premier League team.
Ulinzi team manager, Eliud Nzioka, had asked that Ulinzi be reinstated in the premier, arguing that when they were withdrawn, they were playing at that level.
Nzioka said he has already called back some of his girls who were turning up for national champions Eagle Wings to rejoin the forces side and bolster the playing personnel. "The team is back. The players are there and we are raring to go," said Nzioka, adding: "We have been accepted at the Nairobi Basketball Association league where they will start off."
He named the four players as Rebecca Sarenge, Bridgit Nanzala, Sharon Midamba and Mildred Akinyi. The other player who has also joined Ulinzi is Linda Nyikuli.
