SEYCHELLES : National selection off to Mozambique today
Seychelles men’s national selection leaves the country today for Mozambique,
where they will take part in the 27th African Basketball Nations Championship
(AfroBasket) 2013 qualifier for zone 6.
It was decided by Fiba Africa that Seychelles men’s team, who won the Indian Ocean Island Games gold medal on home ground in 2011, will have to compete in the zone 6 after none of the other zone 7 countries – Mauritius, Madagascar, Comoros and Djibouti – showed an interest in taking part in the zone 7 qualifiers Seychelles was to host.
Other than Seychelles and hosts Mozambique, the other countries which will be taking part in the zone 6 qualifiers are Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Namibia, Zambia, Malawi, Lesotho, Botswana and South Africa.
The 2013 Afro Basket meeting will take place in August in Ivory Coast.
The players making the trip are Bernard Bristol, Alex Baron, Amadou Sylla, Neddy Fanchette, Arnaud Arrisol, Dominique Pillay, Pascal Bibi, Faizel Naiken, Keven Morel and Barry Dubignon.
In the absence of head coach Clifford Joubert, his assistant Tony Juliette will act as head coach and he will be assisted by Alix Allisop.
Georges François is the head of delegation. The team are expected back on March 25.
