KENYA : Basketball League Starts On March 16

THE 2013 national basketball league will throw off on March 16.Joseph Amoko, the Kenya Basketball Federation fixtures secretary said the federation have decided the league start early to ensure it ends in good time.
He said he was busy drawing the fixtures for the first leg which should be out this week."We as a federation have decided to start the national league. For the last few years the league has dragged on until mid December giving our fans little time to enjoy their holidays. This time we want to avoid this." said Amoko.
The league will start without one of its founder teams KCB Lions whose sponsors Kenya Commercial Bank announced they would no longer sponsor their activities in the local scene. Lions were third in last year's premier league. In the absence of Lions, reigning league champions Co-operative Bank of Kenya, runner up United States International University (USIU) Tigers and former champions Ulinzi Warriors will be expected to be the teams to watch.
Amoko also revealed that Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) who were third in the lower division will replace Lions in the premier league. The other promoted sides are Nairobi Aviation Club (NAC) and Nakuru Club. At the same time, Zetech College will join Equity Bank, Strathmore University and Little Prince in Division One following their promotion from the Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) provincial league.
