Mandy Juruni has promised to reveal his final 12 at the end of this week. The national team faces a select side in the first of two practice games this week ahead of the Fiba Africa Zone V Nations Championship in Tanzania from January 21-27.
Today’s game (7pm) is at YMCA court with Fuba aiming to kill two birds with one stone. Juruni and his team will be solely focusing on getting ready for the annual event.
Fan must part with Shs5,000 as part of Fuba fundraising schemes. Juruni already has regret over the withdrawal of Brian Ssentongo.
“I think Brian would have helped us with his size,” Juruni revealed as training got underway. The centre’s absence should push forward Peter Elungat up from the reserves. It will be a close call and both assistants – Gad Eteu and Bernice Ankunda – have been quick to stress that this is ‘Mandy’s team’.
“The players know they are competing for only 12 places. We (coaches) will sit and know who will help us,” Juruni added. “We have so many players who play the same role so one must excel ahead of others.”
