TANZANIA : Zone Five Basketball Final Squad to Be Named On Sunday

THE final squad that will represent the country in this year's Zone Five basketball championship to be staged in Dar es Salaam will be revealed this weekend.
Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) Assistant Secretary General, Michael Maluwe said yesterday that the coaches will pick the teams starting today in the mini best of five tournament at the IST grounds.
"The coaches will pick 15 players each in both men and women side whose names will be sent to FIBA for registration ahead of the weeklong championship, which will start on January 21, this year.
The mini-event in which the players will be playing amongst themselves is expected to be competitive as the basketballers will have to offer all their talents in a bid to impress the coaches. Maluwe said the mini-event will reach its climax on Saturday whereas on Sunday, fans will be able to know who will be up for the national sides at the event.
Maluwe said that preparations for the event are progressing well as they re putting marking at the open space at the National Stadium where the games will be played too. "The government has given us the open space at the National Stadium, we are currently putting on marking and fixing goals ahead of the event," he said.
Head coach Bahati Mgunda is, however, not satisfied with the level of preparations by the local sides saying, "It will be a big shame if we fail to sparkle at home. I call upon all stakeholders to support the teams." The Zone Five championship will attract 12 countries including Burundi, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda, South Sudan and hosts Tanzania.
