TANZANIA : TBF Names Zone Five Final Squads On Sunday
THE final squads that will represent the country in this year's Zone Five Basketball championship to be staged in Dar es Salaam will be revealed on Sunday Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) Assistant Secretary General, Michael Maluwe said yesterday that the coaches will announce the players whom the country will bank on at the event today morning at the Don Bosco, Upanga courts.
"The coaches will pick 15 players each in both men and women categories. Their names will be sent to FIBA for registration ahead of the week-long championship, which will start on January 21, this year," he said.
The players have been picked after a mini-event in which they played amongst themselves for the past three days, with TBF insisting that the selection was based on merit and nothing else. "Our coaches have selected the best players. We know that fans are eagerly waiting to know who the national players will be, they should expect good selection and nothing else," said Maluwe.
Maluwe said that preparations for the event are progressing well as they are putting marking at the open space at the National Stadium where the games will be played too. "The government has given us the open space at the National Stadium, we are currently putting on marking and fixing goals ahead of the event," he said.
The Zone Five championship will attract 12 countries including Burundi, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda, South Sudan and hosts Tanzania.
