Tanzania: Misery Pile Up for Men's Basketball Team

TANZANIA continued with the poor show at the ongoing FIBA Africa Zone Five basketball championship at the National Indoor Stadium in Dar es Salaam after going down to another defeat.
The men side, Tanzanite Kings suffered humiliating 52-95 defeat, at the hands of impressive side Egypt in their second game of the event. In their opening game, the local boys failed to contain the Uganda's pressure despite having the home ground advantage as well as supporters cheering them up from the word go.
If they lose two more games, they will automatically be out of contention for the top three position in the event pitting seven countries. Meanwhile, Egypt coach, Mohamed Hesham Sable has played down title favourite tag at the ongoing Zone Five basketball championship at the National Indoor Stadium in the city and he has predicted a stiff competition from the rest of the teams.
He said shortly after the women encounter that pitted his side against Uganda that as the day goes on the going will be tough. Egypt recorded a 64- 50 victory. "Going by the trend, the competing teams will pick up as the days go by.
They will gain more confidence and experience, it is hard to predict who the winner will be," he said shortly after the game. However, he said, the ladies did not put up the anticipated impressive performance because they were tired and the weather was not in their favour, but promised an improved performance in the coming encounters.
During the game, the Egyptian took off on a low pace while the Ugandans were out to record quick points before their opponent organised themselves. The Egyptian top scorers were Hagar Hesham-21 points and Meena Awad 16 points while for the Uganda Martha Soigi recorded 16 points and Peace Proscovia managed 12 points. In another game, Kenya women side maintained their winning formular after thrashing Burundi 89-44 in a low paced encounter at the same venue yesterday.
The event that pits seven countries continues today with Uganda taking on Burundi, while Kenya faces Rwanda in the women games. Egypt will be up against Uganda in the men morning game. In the evening, host Tanzanite Kinga will play one of the top seeded sides Rwanda in men encounter as their sisters Tanzanites Queens will try their luck against the Egyptians
