NIGERIA : BIOE Wins 'Mark D Ball' 2012 Championship

'Blame It On Experience' (BIOE) have won the 2012 edition of 'Mark D ball' basket ball tournament after defeating ASPAC basketball club of Cotonou 84-73 in the final.
The side made up of former nationals and foreign professionals took the game to their opponents from the start as they speed to 28 against 12 points at the end of first quarter.
They also outshone the Benin Republic Port Authority basketball side in the subsequent quarters, winning the second, third and fourth quarters 41:28, 61:52 and 84:73 respectively.
The coach of BIOE, Obande Ogbole said he was satisfied with the performance of his team, saying they went out for attack and it paid off.
"Attack is the best form of defence and that's what we did but the ASMAC team are exceptional. They gave us a good fight."
Coach of ASPAC, Peter Amedu applauded the efforts of his boys, noting that they performed well even though it was their first time in the tournament.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality of the officiating, admitting they lost to a better side.
Meanwhile, ESPN of Otukpo defeated Apa Flames 34:26 in the third place encounter.
Dolphins' upset
The Dolphins of Lagos basket ball team upset defending champions, Pearls Basketball club of Lagos to win the 2012 edition of the Female category of the tournament.
Pearls were the favoured side to triumph in the final but were stunned by the strength and determination of their opponents. They lost the first quarter 1:11 and never recovered till the end of the encounter.
Dolphins, inspired by petit guard, Tokunbo Olaosebikan went on to win the remain quarters; 16:6, 27:11 and 33:24 respectively.
Manager of the Dolphins, Wale Aboderin said his girls went on against all odds to win the encounter.
The manager who earlier complained that the girls had no chance of winning the final as they were tired and playing through injuries, said determination was the key to his team's triumph over Pearls.
In the third place game decided earlier, Impression of Delta edged Rockers of Jos; 23:21.
Mission accomplished
Initiator of the tournament, Igoche Mark said they aims of organising the tournament was achieved.
"It's a great tournament. We had quality games, so many talents have been identified already while the kids clinic was a success as well.
"I'm impressed with everything but that doesn't mean we can't improve. I'm optimistic that the next edition will be better", he noted.
Igoche Mark captained BIOE to winning the championship and he said it was a collective effort that earned them the success.
