Kenya: Musingu High Win Arunga Basketball Tourney Title
MUSINGU High School beat hosts and defending champions, St.Peters Mumias boys 22-08 to win this year's edition of the annual KBF Western Mike Arunga tournament at the latter's grounds.
Smarting from the losing the finals of the New Era tournament to Friends School Kamusinga a week ago, Musingu played a stifling defence and gave the host no chance. Wellington Omondi scored 10 points for the victors and won the top scorer's trophy. Despite losing, Oscar Mukoyani of the Saints was crowned the tournament's Most Valuable Player. En-route to the finals, Musingu edged out Sigalame high 25-18 in the semis while Mumias beat Kilingili high 37-22. Quarter final results were as follows: Sigalame 17 Kakamega 14, Kilingili 16 Ingotse 15, St.Peters Mumias 34 Malava 21 and Musingu 19 Lumakanda 08.
In the clubs' category, Bungoma Sonics fielding Kenya team trialists Martin Kitongo and Fred Lugasi crashed Busia Raptors 56-23 to be crowned champions this year. Defending champions, Masinde Muliro University did not take part in this year's championships.
