Kenya: Kamusinga Floor Musingu to Retain New Era Trophy

FRIENDS School Kamusinga beat Musingu 53-20 to retain the New Era basketball tournament title at Kakamega High School on Sunday. Man of the Match, Sidney Mwanza, posted 16 points while Joseph Obiero added 10 points for the winners. Chris Erwan topped the losers' chart with 10 points.
Kamusinga drubbed hapless Butula boys' 43-08 in the semis while Musingu hit St. Peter's Mumias 26-06 to reach final. A total of 13 men's teams participated the event. Premier League side, Western Delight won the women's final after beating St. Brigit's girls 32-22 in a mouth-watering encounter at the same venue.
Kenya's under-18 international player Eve Chebet scored 13 points and her compatriot Bianca Nyambura added 08 points but this was not enough to lift St. Bridgid's to victory. However, though St. Brigit's lost the final to the premiership side, they were crowned the girls' secondary schools champions. The tournament attracted six teams and was played on a round robin.
The tournament sponsored by the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) western branch marked the start of season. The event coincided with a coaching and officiating clinic course at St. Peter's Mumias. Eagles Wings head Coach Thomas Olumbo and international referee Sammy Wakaba officiated at the clinics.
