KENYA : Red Hot Flames’ Indasi tipped for MVP
Updated on 16/12/12 | By DENNIS MACHIO
USIU Flames’ lead player Hilda Indasi has been in blistering form this season guiding her team to a second place finish in the just concluded women’s basketball premier league.
USIU lost to defending champions Eagle Wings in two of the best of three finals matches played at the Nyayo stadium on Wednesday and Saturday. Despite the fall in the finals, the students gave a good account of themselves leading the table standings for the better part of the season.
But their push to glory this season will mostly be attributed to the courage and determination of former KPA player Hilda Luvandwa Indasi who has received accolades from all corner including Eagle Wings star Silalei Shani who says,” Hilda has had a brilliant season. We won the finals but surely USIU were awesome and Hilda was incredible. It will not be surprising at all if she is named the Most Valuable Player this season.”
On Wednesday during game one of the play offs finals, Hilda scored 22 points for her side that narrowly lost by three points (55-58) to the champions. She repeated the same outstanding performance on Saturday scoring 30 points though this was not enough to stop the flying Eagles who cancelled her last minute three point shot with quick final baskets from Silalei and Samba Mjomba to win the league.
Eagle Wings' Samba Mjomba won the coveted MVP last season.
The outstanding performers in this year’s league will be awarded after Sunday’s finals pitting USIU Men and defending champions Coop Bank. The two were forced to go to match three after a 1-1 draw in the first two matches.
