Eagle Wings retained their KBF Premier League title after they beat USIU Flames 67-62 to win game 2 of the play offs on Saturday afternoon at the Nyayo Gymnasium. Eagle Wings had managed to beat the students 58-55 in game one on Wednesday and after the win today they take the title for a record third time.
Eagle Wings looked comfortable and took the 1st quarter 23-17 then went ahead to stamp their lead in the 2nd quarter winning 15-11 to put the half time scores at 38-28 in favor of the champions.
The students thought they would pull a cat out of the bag and force the game into game three as they pushed hard in the third quarter. Hilda Indasi was in industrious form for the students and her hard work in both halves of the field forced the quarter into a 16 all tie.
The fourth Quarter was more entertaining and nail biting for the defending champions as USIU threw all spanners into the workshop in a bid to push Wings to their wits end and cut down the scores. They succeeded into pushing Smatts Olumbo’s ladies to just within three points.
However, Silalei Shani and Samba Mjomba were on top form when they gave their team the winning last 4 points after each of them made two quick baskets in the last minute of the game and take the day. In the end Mjomba had 16 points followed by Shani and Angela Oketch followed with 14 points each.
