Tanzania: U.S. Coach Jets to Train National B'Ball Teams

AMERICAN coach, Albert Sokaitis arrived in the country on Friday evening and he will undertake his assignment as the national basketball teams coach on Monday.
Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) Vice-President, Phares Magesa said the coach travelled to Tanga on Saturday, where he will pick the men and women national sides at the ongoing national championship. He said Sokaitis who has vast experience in the field will be assisted by his colleague Jocquis Sconiers in the mission.
He said the tacticians whose trip was made possible by the US Embassy in the country will have to trade all their expertise to ensure that Tanzania shines at the Zone Five championship to be hosted in Dar es Salaam next month.
"It is in our efforts to turn around Tanzania's basketball fortunes, the country has opted to hire a coach and his assistant from the US, one of the world's best basketball playing nations," said Magesa. He was optimistic they will propel the national teams to the higher heights of success because they both boast vast knowledge on various issues pertaining to the sport.
Magesa was thankful to the US embassy in the country for making it real by offering to foot accommodation costs for the new coach, who is also charged with the task of conducting numerous courses for local coaches.
