TANZANIA : Mwanza Basketball League Gain Momentum

ST. FRANCIS prolonged their losing streak in the ongoing Mwanza Regional Basketball Association (MRBA) League after conceding defeats to Dolphin Pasiansi and SAUT Warriors in matches played earlier this week.
MRBA has organized the league in the body's continuous efforts to promote the sport among youths in the region, apart from giving the participating players opportunity to stay in great shape ahead of both major domestic and regional competitions.
St. Francis suffered 75-50 defeat to Dolphin Pasiansi in the first match and then the former failed to snap their frustrating run when they lost 63-32 to SAUT Warriors in the second game.
The youthful St. Francis showcased some flashes of tenacity against Dolphin Pasiansi in the match played at the latter's venue, Bank of Tanzania (BoT) Mwanza courts, but they still failed to step up their game when it mattered the most.
Dolphin, the regulars in various club competitions organized by MRBA annually, ultimately came out victorious to keep alive hopes of challenging for silverware successfully alongside the league favourites, Bugando Heat and SAUT Stars.
But Dolphin will need to be at their best particularly in matches against the favourites to stand any chance of laying hands on the top honour considering that Bugando Heat, SAUT Stars and lately, SAUT Warriors, have shown strong desire to dominate the event.
And, in the second match against SAUT Warriors at the latter's backyard at Nyegezi, a few kilometres away from Mwanza city centre, St. Francis were, again, let down by inexperience and that let the determined SAUT Warriors hold sway in all four quarters of the game.
St. Francis' attempts to be among serious contenders for the trophy, in this case, have been dealt a big blow following the two defeats, which have left the team languishing in lower position in the standing. St. Francis and Dolphin Pasiansi were previously scheduled to clash a few days back but the match was pushed back by the league's organizers for reasons that were not put clear.
The league has also been purposely organized by MRBA to give the region's players chance to continue enjoying regular participation in the sport particularly after missing out on this year's National Basketball Championship, Taifa Cup, played in Tanga earlier this month.
