Tanga. Sajda Ahmed put up a sterling performance yesterday to guide Dar es Salaam to a thumping victory over Tanga in the ongoing Taifa Cup basketball championship.

The Dar point guard buried 25 points in her team’s 60-42 demolition of the hosts at Mkwakwani courts.
Dar es Salaam have won their three opening matches, thus sit at the summit of the five-team table with six points.
The victors tipped off the game on a high note and managed to register a 20-6 first quarter lead.
With Sajda tormenting Tanga guards, Dar es Salaam returned to the second quarter with all guns blazing and stretched their lead to 30-12 until the breather.
The hosts, who now sit second with three points, failed to take advantage of an electric home atmosphere, allowing Dar es Salaam to dictate the pace of the game.
On resumption, Dar es Salaam continued to trouble Tanga in all departments and eventually sealed the crushing win.
Semeni Abeid was Tanga’s outstanding player after bagging 22 points. However, her brilliance could not save her side from the defeat.
Dar es Salaam tipped off the weeklong championship with an 80-53 victory over Mbeya before putting Iringa to the sword with a comprehensive 114-47 win.
Another game yesterday saw Mbeya dispatch clueless Morogoro 72-32 and revive hopes of claiming one of the top places.
Mbeya dominated the game from the outset and led by 34-11 until the halftime break before wrapping up the victory in the remaining quarters.
Lulu Joseph and Mary Meshack scored 21 and 20 points respectively for Mbeya to put the score well beyond Morogoro’s reach.
Prisca Boniface of Morogoro worked tirelessly and scored 15 points. However, they were too little to overturn Mbeya’s lead.
Meanwhile, in a late game, men’s defending champions Singida beat Mara 78-60 to qualify for the quarterfinals.
The quarterfinal stage, which was to start yesterday pitted Singida against Mbeya, Dar versus Iringa while Arusha were to date Coast.
The event, which has been organised by the Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) features more than 11 regions, ten of them men’s sides.
Regions whose teams are taking part in the championship are Coast, Arusha, Lindi, Tanga, Mbeya, Dodoma, Singida, Mara, Kilimanjaro and Mara.
