The first segment of toil in the Airtel National Basketball worth seven months will get its curtain call today at YMCA as the regular season winds up. It’s not the most exciting of final days. All the permutations in regard to the playoffs and relegation have been done. This, season, the league grew by two teams from 10.
Of the two that sneaked in from Division Two, Vegetarian and Rez Life, only the former will live to fight another day having won four all season. Rez Life go down winless. Heaters, who survived via a playoff that sent former champions Charging Rhino down, finished seventh. They are even part of the postseason as the playoffs will constitute double the usual four teams.
Their final preparation for a quarterfinal matchup with second seed Falcons is a game against leaders Warriors.
Heaters coach Brian Wathum can expect Warriors to field their reserves mainly to protect their starters from injuries and fatigue.
Steven Okias is one coach Mandy Juruni should be desperate to get time on the floor after a quiet season. Meanwhile, third seed KIU Titans face Vegetarian.
KIU will head into the postseason with their tails up and a maiden title being a realistic target. They have beaten both Falcons and two-time defending champions DMark power twice each.
