SIERRA LEONE : Salone Basketball Team to Engage Guinea

The Sierra Leone Basketball Association (SLBA) is currently putting together a squad which will embark on a friendly international encounter against neighbouring Guinea. The one-day friendly encounter is expected to be staged next week (the fourth week in October) in Conakry, Guinea and according to the Sierra Leone coach, Alhaji Arun Sesay, they will be up against the Guinea champions.
He said: "The purpose of the match is for the Sierra Leonean players to gain international exposure as it is the first time most of our players will be playing an international match to be officiated by AFIBA referees."
According to Sesay, even though winning the match is a secondary issue, they are heading to Conakry with much determination to gain experience ahead of the forthcoming three-nation tournament in Freetown.
He said: "That is why we have selected young players who performed well from the just concluded national and school leagues to be backed up with few others from the Lebanese International School," Sesay disclosed. "We have also included two experienced players in the squad so we can match up the Guineans who have got experienced players that have played in the Afro-basketball tournament, Zone II and other competitions."
The head coach further revealed that the friendly will help improve and expose his players to international basketball standard ahead of the three-nation tournament which will be staged later this year in Freetown.
