KENYA : Eagle Wings depart for African championships

Regional basketball champions Eagle Wings left Nairobi on Thursday morning for Ivory Coast where they will be taking part in the 2012 edition of the FIBA Africa basketball championships that kick off this Friday.
The draw for the tournament will be held later on Thursday evening with Eagle Wings expected to play their first match on Friday. This will be the first continental championship for Eagle Wings who missed the chance in 2010 after failing to travel to Tunisia due to lack of funds.
“We are very excited and we look forward to the experience in Ivory Coast. We thank everyone who has contributed towards making this trip a reality and we promise we will not disappoint.” Said team player Samba Mjomba.
On Wednesday, just hours before their departure, Eagle Wings got a major financial boost with Nairobi Mayor George Aladwa giving the team 100,000 shillings cash donation and also promised to host them to a party once they return from Ivory Coast.
“We just love the way everyone has encouraged us, shared with us and contributed towards our travel. We feel loved and touched.Thank you to everyone.” Mjomba added.
Traveling squad: Susan Akinyi, Linda Nyikuli, Angela Okoth, Samba Mjomba, Silalei Owuor, Brigid Nyongesa, Evelyne Achieng, Denise Apondi, Sharon Bela, Rebecca Sarange, Eunice Ouma,
Officials: Thomas Olumbo, Everlyne Kedogo, Nellie Odera, Agina Wesonga, Juma Kent, Wanyama Shikuku.
