Kenya: CBA Suspend Mombasa Ball Games Over Chaos

BASKETBALL matches programmed for Mombasa this weekend have been suspended due to the unrest which has been experienced in Mombasa over the last few days following the killing of Sheikh Aboud Rogo. The Coast Basketball Association has sent e-mails to all the 17 Coast Basketball League teams informing them of the decision.
The mail sent by CBA chairman Ali Hilmy reads in part: "We regret to inform you that there will be no matches this weekend following the chaos that has rocked Mombasa town for the past few days.
This is in solidarity with all those who treasure peace." Six matches were to be played at the recently commissioned Buxton Hawks court that would have brought teams from Mvita, Kisauni and Changamwe constituencies together.
Hilmy said the present atmosphere does no allow for a condusive atmosphere for the game."This decision was reached after an executive meeting deemed it fit in efforts to push for peace amongst Mombasa residents, " he added.
The fixtures for this weekend were: Mombasa Polytechnic University College v Kiembeni Hits, Coastal Kings v Wazee, Buxton Hawks v. Mtopanga Hits, Congo Nets v. Tumaini Takers, Oceaners v. Gorofani and Kisauni Kings v. Makupa Lakers.
