2011 KBF Premier League Champions in the men’s category Co-op Bank will face it off with arch rivals and fellow Bankers Kenya Commercial Bank on Sunday afternoon at the Nyayo Gymnasium in what will be the hottest and most fierce battles of the Basketball weekend action .
The two teams have met twice this year with each team securing a win against the other. KCB who lead the current table standings with 30 points from 15 matches were the first to draw blood beating Co-op Bank 58-45 in the 1st leg of the fixture played on 5th June at the Nyayo Gymnasium. KCB is yet to lose since the onset of the league.
After making some major signings Co-op Bank came out dominant at the Tom Munyama tournament played at the Railways Sports Club in July defeating the Lions 61-59 in a tightly contested match. Co-op Bank currently lies second with 26 points after 16 matches.
Speaking to michezoafrika.com Morris Shitshama the KCB tactician has come out strongly maintaining that the team’s main target is to finish the 2nd leg unbeaten and therefore going for nothing less but a win over Co-op Bank,
“We lost to Co-op Bank at the Tom Munyama tournament and we have rectified the mistakes that we made and now we are ready to maintain our unbeaten run in the league. It will be a tough match but we have to win.”
On the other hand Cary Odhiambo the Co-op Bank coach has reserved himself to the outcome of the highly anticipated match, “we have prepared well for the match but I can’t say more rather than wait for the outcome of the match but it is obvious that we also want to win.”
If the Lions win it will cement their position at the helm of the table standings while a win for Co-op Bank will pile pressure on the league leaders but will still be at 2nd place. The match will kick off at 4:30 pm.
