UGANDA : Rwanda’s Espoir defeat Burundi’s Urunani to men’s Zone 5 title
Urunani 39 – 90 Espoir
Rwandan side Espoir put a halt to Urunani’s tournament form, to clinch the men’s FIBA Africa Zone 5 Championships at the Lugogo Indoor Arena on Sunday evening.
The former, who had eliminated Kenya’s KCB Lions prior to the final, gave no show as they lost out 90-39 in a one-sided affair.
“We do not know what happened,” Urunani captain
Alexis Hakizimna, who failed on two attempts, told Kawowo Sports. The Burundian side was so poor on the day that their best scorer Elvis Hakizina had only nine points.
But Espoir were the side in control of the game. They reached the 20 point mark in all quarters, reaching 90 in total.Arstide Mugabe, who was later named the tournament’s most valuable player (MVP), scored a game high 26 points.
“It was determination that saw us through,” Christopher Wazayire told this website. “We started counting our chances after the third quarter.” he added.
