Uganda: Lugogo to Stage Zone V Championships

  • IT is now up to the fans to choose where and which games to watch after the local basketball body FUBA, secured two separate venues to host the regional FIBA Zone V championship that throws-off today in Kampala.
Tickets at both venues, the Lugogo indoor stadium and Makerere University main ground, will be going for sh10,000 per head for each day throughout the weeklong Sprite and IAA hospital sponsored event.
"This is a major tournament in the region so the tickets will go for a little more than the local league games" FUBA publicist, Ali Balunywa stated.
"We decided to make the costs equal to give the fans a 'balanced' mind because we are looking at delivering the most exciting event in full colour," he added.
Local champions DMark Power and Kyambogo Warriors will represent Uganda on the men's side while UCU Lady Canons and KCCA Leopards will feature in the women's category. By press time draws had not yet been picked.
The men and women defending champions Uranani from Burundi and Kenya's Port Authority respectively are also set for the contest ending August 26.
Other teams in action include KCB, Cooperative Bank and Eagles Wings from Kenya, Tanzania's ABC, Jeshi Stars and Lioness while Rwanda and Burundi have entered Espior, APR, New Stars and Berco Stars.
