Uganda hosted this year’s FIBA Africa Zone 5 Championships with an aim to have home sides lift the men and women’s crowns but it did not turn out to be the case.
Dmark Power, the reigning Airtel FUBA Champions were left bleak by at the semifinal stage by the eventual winners Espoir on Thursday.
The side only had to compensate home fans with a 66-65 win over KCB Lions in a last quarter nerve-wrecking third place tie.
The Kenyan side was in control from the start, leading the first and second quarters with 21-14 and 21-20 leads. But Power fought back to return 17-12 and 15-11 scores in the last two.
The final minute needed Power to hold the ball but with 38 seconds to play, Isaac Afidra lost the ball only for the Kenyans to miss the throw.
Joseph Ikong scored 16 points while Isaac Lugude had 14.
Only Ancetas Wafula of KCB (13) reached double figures.
