Tanzania: Savio Ready for East Africa Basketball Glory

REINING national Basket League champions Savio left yesterday for Kampala, Uganda hoping to power their way to the finals of the 2012 season of East and Central Africa Basketball Championship.
Team captain George Tarimo told the 'Sunday News' last Friday that his team was looking to improve on the semi-final mark they achieved last year in the corresponding event held in Burundian capital Bujumbura.
Tarimo was speaking during a thanks-giving farewell party hosted by the team on behalf of one of the team's main sponsors, BQ Contractors Limited, that also donated sports gear worth over 2m/-.
He said that the team was among a contingent of four local teams that would fly Tanzanian flag at the annual championship, adding that the players would inspire each other towards the ultimate finals.
The other teams include Lady Lions, ABC and Jeshi Stars and the towering Tarimo was enthusiastic about the huge mix of talent in the four teams when he said the players were in high spirits and prepared for a successful appearance.
He said: "Last year we were eliminated at the semis. Events like this are always very competitive with teams from Kenya, and other countries fighting to reach the finals. Ours is a complete team of talent and commitment and we will inspire each other even beyond the finals. We are there to be counted."
While offering the donation, Eng. John Bura, the Managing Director of BQ Contractors preached discipline, saying players must observe the values of good sportsmanship and fair play at all times.
Bura said: "We like being associated with youth development and are therefore, happy that we are able to support your trip to Kampala. It is important we all observe discipline and fair play if we look to succeed. Again, the most disciplined players attract more support. Please go and compete in the spirit of fair play."
