KENYA : Hilda led USIU in hot Flames

2011 Kenya Basketball Premier League Women’s Defending Champions Eagle Wings lost their five match unbeaten run to Mombasa based Kenya Ports Authority last Friday to set changes in the table standings of the league.
USIU Flames powered by the ever green Hilda Indiasi lead the standings with 14 points after 7 matches closely checked by Mercy Wanyama’s Storms who also have 14 points but have played two more matches compared to Flames.
Reigning champions Eagle Wings, Co-op Bank and Kakamega based Western Delight follow at position 3, 4 and 5 respectively all of them sharing 11 points. Western Delight and the bankers have played 7 matches while Eagle Wings have played 6.
The second half of the table sees Safe Spaces occupy position 6 with 10 points followed by KPA who have 8 points winning all their 4 matches. Strathmore and NYTA Shimba Hills share 7 points both losing 3 of their 5 matches. Mennonites and Gladiators close the standings with 6 and 5 points respectively both playing 6 matches so far.

MEN CATEGORY
In the men’s category. The Lions of KCB remain relentless in their title chase with an 8/8 performance picking 16 points along the way. Student side USIU and Strathmore follow with 15 and 13 points respectively. USIU has lost only one of their 8 matches, going down to UON Terrorists.
Defending champions Co-op bank are struggling to find their normal punch and lie at position 4 having won four of their eight matches. UON Terror and Mennonites hold positions 5 and 6 respectively with the students having 11 points while the latter has 10 points.
Kenya Ports Authority had a shaky start to the league but over the past weekend they managed to get the maximum 4 points for their two matches played in Nairobi. They are at 8th with 8 points from 5 matches.
Lakeside and reinstated Ulinzi close the men’s standing’s at position 11 and 12 respectively. Lakeside has won only once, losing three and forfeiting one.
The only win came as they beat Strathmore at the Kisumu Sports Grounds. Ulinzi has 2 points from 2 matches losing their matches over the weekend (against KPA and Terrorists).

The league will resume on Friday the 13th with two league matches played at USIU. The hosts male and female teams will take on their counterparts from the Kenya Ports Authority.
