UGANDA : Titans force OverTime but fall to Warriors 61-56


 
kiuRonnie Kasewu scored 6 of his 15 points in overtime to pace Warriors to a 61-56 win over KIU Titans on Sunday night at YMCA. Warriors (10-1) jumped to a 10-0 run in the first period as Titans (7-2) went scoreless for nearly 5 minutes and trailed 20-8 at the end of the quarter. KIU scored a point more in thee second quarter and trailed by 13 at half time.
Syrus Kiviri (10 points) opened the third quarter for Warriors from downtown. Francis Kasekende (15 points) responded
with a corner 3-ball for Titans and guard Salim Ali nailed another from the top of the mountain to open KIU’s 23 point third quarter that brought them with in 43-40. With 2:59 in the third quarter , Warriors called for a time out after Kasekende had pulled KIU within 8 and on return Ali added a lay-up in the explosive quarter the come back continued in the fourth and with 1:19 Ali hit another trey to put KIU with in 1 (51-50). He swiped the ball seconds later and missed a go ahead lay-up with 14 seconds to the buzzer. On Warriors gaining possession, Kasewu was sent to the line and hit 1 throw and on in bounding Salim’s lay-up with 4 seconds sent the game to overtime. At this point Kasewu took over from the foul line sinking all his 6 throws in the period including two with 9 seconds which were the final dagger. “We lost the game because of the bad first half. We took to much energy to close up the game and started making unnecessary fouls and turnovers” Titans’ coach Nimrod said. Henry Malinga scored game high 19 points and Sam Gombya added 8 points that went with 14 rebounds. Salim Ali led KIU with 15 points. Richard Osano scored 7 points and picked game high 17 rebounds.
