Basketball in Africa

The Liberia Basketball Association (LBA) has constituted an adhoc committee to raise funds for the under-18 national basketball and senior teams' trip to Abidjan, Ivory Coast and Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso respectively.
Jeremy Russell and Zoegar Jaynes are to serve as chairman and co-chairman, while FrontpageAfrica sports editor Danesius Marteh is the chief scribe to the committee.
Malcolm Joseph and Nimene Williams, two former presidents of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (Swal), as well as Cozea Gwaikolo, William Tubman, Clem Urey and Calvin Diggs are to serve as members.
LBA secretary-general D. Allen Goodrich will serve as ex-officio.
The committee is hoping to raise at least US$50,000 (fifty-thousand United States dollars), which will cover round trip tickets, accommodation, registration fees, internal travels and match indemnity for the players, technical staff and officials.
The committee intends to raise the money from public, private and corporate institutions including the House of Representatives, National Oil Company of Liberia, National Social Security and Welfare Corporation, Liberia Petroleum Refining Company, Liberia Maritime Authority, National Port Authority, Firestone, Harbel Supermarket, Chevron and Total Liberia among others.
Contingent upon the funding, the under-18 is expected to leave Monrovia on June 22, while the national team leaves mid July.
