KENYA : TIGERS STRIKE THUNDER IN A THRILLER

After dismissing defending champions COOP Bank last weekend, USIU Tigers had a date with yet another giant Thunder but the students displayed a strong winning mentality despite being down by 10 points with less than eight minutes left to end the game. The first half was evenly played out between the two sides with Thunder winning the first at 17-18 while Tigers replied with a one point win of 12-11 to even the scores at 29 ups by halftime.

Second half was the epitome of the game with Thunder tearing the students 17-27 in the third thanks to hardly taken shots by James Omune and star guard Griffin Ligare who ensured the students tasted their first loss of the season after their big win over COOP Bank last season. The third quarter ended in Thunder’s favour at 46-56 silencing the otherwise thrilling USIU fans who had jammed the court to cheer their side. The last 6 minutes of the game turned to be harsh on Thunder as poor defense cost them their lead with one Sammy Kirya literally getting scared of offering Ligare the screens that he badly needed to burry in his custom three point shots. Thanks to Chris Mulumba and Arou Chan’s driving power towards the basket, the students silenced the otherwise excited Thunder bench with a 30-17 win to end the game at 76-73. USIU carry their form to the next game that will be against their bitter rivals Strathmore Blades in a game that will be played under the full glare of floodlights this Friday Night
