Updated on 22/06/12 | By BRIAN AYIEKO
Kenyatta University basketball team ‘The Pirates’ have been promoted to the Kenya Basketball League Division One from the Nairobi Basketball Association (Division 2).The new development was effected last week.
Kenyatta University had been participating in the NBA league and had played 8 games at the point of their promotion. KU were the 3rd runners up in last years’ Interprovincial Play-offs held in Mombasa where the top two teams would earn a spot in the Div One league.
The top two teams in the tournament were Kenya Airways and Upper Hill School who are currently participating in the league.
The spot that was given to Pirates came as a result of the Kenya Navy team leaving the league since the Defence forces disbanded all their teams for the ‘Operation Linda Nchi’ and the league required to have 12 teams.
Kenyatta University will play their first match against Parklands Baptist on Sunday 9.00am at the Nyayo Gymnasium.
