TANZANIA : Dar-Es-Salaam Set to Stage Next Inter Cities Extravagaza

DAR-ES-SALAAM will host next year's 15th edition of the East and Central Africa Inter Cities championships, a top official has announced. Simon Msoffe, the East and Central Africa Basketball Federation (E&CABF) President, however, said Kampala will still be on stand- by should Dar fail to host. Dar teams failed to travel to Kampala for this year's show in Kampala. Lord Mayor of the Ugandan city had asked the organisers to consider giving Kampala another chance to host the event.
Meanwhile, Nairobi's Hilda Indasi and Mombasa's Chris Abuto were named the Most Valuable Players (MVP) in the just ended East and Central Africa Inter Cities Championships. Hilda led the defending champions with class nailing 16 points in their 68-47 win over Kampala. Abuto on the other hand was key in Mombasa's 80-47 victory over Mukono of Uganda.
Best Defensive Players (BDP) was given to Naftali Msongoti of Mukono while the ladies trophy went to KCC's Martha Soigi. Mombasa torched Mukono 80-47 to claim the men's finals. The coastal lads led 43-19 at the break and returned in the second half to dominate the game. Nelson Njau hit 16 points for the winners while the losers had 12 from Naftali Msongoti.
Nairobi retained the East and Central Africa Inter Cities crown after thrashing hosts Kampala City 67-48 in the finals of the 14th edition at YMCA, Wandegeya. Indasi was the top scorer with 16 points while the lanky Susan Akinyi nailed 14. Eleanor Musundi was also a stand out in defence. For KCC, Monica Sima grabbed 16 points. Nairobi had whipped Moyo 76-43 in a one-sided semi finals while Kampala went past compatriots Moyo 48-40. The winners played three preliminary round matches without losing any match. They beat Mukono 51-40 , Kampala 62-45 and Moyo 61-31.
