Kenya Commercial Bank basketball team on Friday evening beat arch rivals and KBF League defending champions Co-op bank 58 – 45 at the Nyayo Gymnasium in the League games dubbed Friday Night Basketball that will be taking place every first Friday of the month.

Co- op bank showed their intention to win the match early enough when the first quarter ended 16 – 11 in their favor. This was however after a turn of events since by the 4th minute of the game KCB had managed 5 points against Co-op’s zilch.

In the second quarter, KCB upped their game and both teams managed 8 points at the end of the quarter with Co-op bank still leading 24 against KCB’s 19.
KCB then turned tables in the third quarter to overpower Coop as they were physically superior gaining 18 points against Co-op bank’s 11 points. The total points at the end of the quarter were 35 - 37 in favor of KCB.
In the final quarter KCB ripped apart Co-op bank’s defense especially with superb plays from the man of the match Victor Odendo and the home side slumped getting only 10 points against KCB’s impressive score of 21 points in the 4th quarter to take home the win.
Speaking after the match, KCB tactician Morris Shitsama was happy with his side’s performance and only reaffirmed what he had said on Thursday, “We kept our word. We had a few mistakes and we will work on them but as I said, we were going to beat them. We did and we are happy.’’
Carey Odhiambo the Co-op bank coach was disappointed with the loss to their perennial rivals but is optimistic of recovering,
“we failed on our defensive assignments especially in the 3rd and 4th quarters and they punished us. We also stopped getting plays and on top of that we did not score on the open chances that we had, but I am sure we will get back soon enough.”

The Kenya Basketball Federation League games will resume on Saturday but the games will be played at Upper Hill high school and not the Nyayo Gymnasium as per the norm.
