KENYA : Footprints on a rude welcome to NBA League

Ladies basketball side Footprints who are making a debut in the Nairobi Basketball Association League started their league experience on a sour note after going down to EMYBA 41 – 31.
EMYBA took the lead from the onset acquiring 12 points against Footprint's 7 points in the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter saw Footprints gain 7 points again while EMYBA managed to have 10 points making the total points at half time 22-14 in favor of EMYBA.
In the 3rd quarter,Footprints improved on their defensive play giving EMYBA a hard time but they could not cut down the margin. Both teams added 7 points to put the total tally at this juncture at 29 – 21.
The final quarter was a close tie with Footprints losing narrowly by two points,against EMYBA who got 12 to emerge winners.
EMYBA tactician Vincent Onsongo said that despite the pressure from Footprints the game was easy: "We had a good defense line set but I feel we should have gotten more points since we lost many open chances but all in all it was an easy game for us."
In the first ladies match of the day, Mt. Kenya University lost to fellow University side Kenyatta University’s Oryx.Mt.Kenya University Head coach Iddi Shaban blamed the loss to lack of substitutes: "We ha
d only one sub and as you can see they beat us in the 2nd quarter when they got 14 points against our 3 points.’ The game ended 48 – 33.
KU Oryx will face Barclays Bank of Kenya Eaglets on Sunday from 12pm at the Railways Sports Club.
