KENYA : Equity mums Daystar to remain unbeaten in NBA

Equity bank basketball team over the weekend silenced Athi- River based students Daystar University 69-52 to maintain their unbeaten run in the Nairobi Basketball Association League.

Equity whitewashed Daystar 23 points against a dismal 5 points in the first quarter to commence proceedings on a strong note in all departments.
The students tried to up their game in the 2nd quarter but Equity maintained supremacy to win the second quarter even though 17- 13.
Daystar looked a bit more energized in the third quarter pushing Equity to the wall with nice lay ups and strong defensive play and though they lost, it was by a single point of 17-16.
The pressure continued in the final quarter as Equity fizzled in stamina but it was little too late for the students to pull back a surprise comeback despite winning the final quarter 12- 18 .
Equity coach Radhi Ndalu while speaking after the match attributed the win to experience “we had a cushion in the 1st quarter and this really helped us today. The experience that my players have also was a factor and what I can say is that they (Daystar) are a good team.’’
Equity captain Godfrey Abuya was also delighted by the win and when asked about potential threats to their title chase he wrote off Don Bosco saying they did not have anything to offer,
“they have played in the league for some time and the fact that they have not moved up means that they have nothing to show. I am more wary of the teams that were relegated last season.’’

In the other end, Daystar Coach Peter Otieno was disappointed with his team’s performance citing lack of motivation, “in the 1st quarter we lacked the desire and passion to compete, we lost a number of obvious baskets and this was not good,”
He went on to add that the team’s defence failed to resist well “we were not checking our men and simple balls were intercepted by the opponents.’’
So far Barclays bank and Equity have gone unbeaten in the league and Don Bosco also join them in that group.
