KENYA : Eagle Wings soar past Kingdom Queens

Eagle Wings the 2011 Kenya Basketball Federation League champions continued with their supremacy when they beat Co-op bank ladies’ basketball team Kingdom Queens 52 – 48 at the Nyayo Gymnasium during the Friday Night Basketball to register their second consecutive win.
Eagle Wings commenced the day against a seasoned rival with stronger offence. Both teams looked impressive in their defense but failed to capitalize on rebounds .The first quarter ended in favor of Kingdom Queens who led the champions Eagle Wings 9-7.
It was the same case in the 2nd quarter where Co-op bank tried to maintain their lead though the defending champions looked stronger in all departments led by Samba Mjomba and Silalei Shani. Eagle Wings managed won the quarter but on a slim margin of 10-11.
The 3rd quarter was tense and fast paced with each side trying to get the early points towards the final quarter. But Eagle Wings again had a slim advantage winning the quarter 13-14 to level with 32 points.
This invited a more exciting final quarter where the game was decided. Eagle Wings had to sweat for the win against a determined Queens’ and at one point with three minutes to the end of the match, both teams tied at 43-43.
Led by Angela Okoth (18points), Samba Mjomba (13points) and Silalei Shani (12points), Eagle Wings stood the test and took home the win on a 48-52 final score line having managed a 16-20 final quarter triumph.

In a men’s exhibition match dubbed ‘battle of the hoods’ played the same evening Westie beat Umoja with a margin of 6 points the game ending 19 – 13.
