ULTIMATELY Kampala City stamped their urge to lift this year's Inter Cities Basketball title by beating Moyo 101-48 at the YMCA courts on Tuesday night.
Ivan Enabu scored a game-high 16 points as Kampala City exploited a speedy start to defeat Moyo as the Inter-Cities games got underway. Behind the strong play of Jimmy Enabu and Sam Gombya (highs of 13 points), Kampala's reserves were able to keep their team in the hunt for a regional title that has eluded them for over five years.
With a battalion of speedy guards, Kampala was able to execute offensively all night and finished with an excellent victory. The loss cemented Moyo's .
Kampala who boast of two-time MVP Ben Komakech, 2005 Zone V MVP Ivan Enabu and the 7-ft Sam Gombya on their squad will continue their aggressive title push when they play Juba in today's final game at the YMCA.
In the women's game, Mukono's solid fight deep in the fourth quarter were only short as they fell to defending champions Nairobi City 51-40 on day one off the weeklong event.
And in other matches of the day, Juba trounced Mogadishu 82/47, and Hargeisa also from Somalia lost to Mukono men 83/33.Hargeisa will however get a chance to redeem themselves when they take on Mombasa City today.
