NIGERIA : Basketball League - Warriors, Pillars Hold Sway
As the 2011/2012 Premier Basketball League title race hots up in Nigeria , two teams have set the pace in both the Atlantic and Savannah Conferences.
Dodan Warriors against all odds hold an 8-0 unbeaten record going into the All Star Break while Kano Pillars, the 2009/2010 Champions maintains a similar 8-0 unbeaten record in the Savannah Conference.
As the league resumes this weekend, other teams will seek to stop the invincibility of the two teams. For the Warriors, their good form has been accompanied by some scintillating high tempo game under the tutelage of experienced Coach Adeka Daudu.
Parading mostly unknown and youthful players, it continues to show an example in team management under Col Sam Ahmedu (Rtd), the Clubs owner and proprietor, who however, attributes his team's good run to luck. "We have been lucky so far.
Moreso, we are just in the regular season. The real battle starts and ends at the play offs and only then will we know our true strength. We can not write off teams like defending champions, Royal Hoopers, Islanders and Comets at this stage and we must keep an eye on what is happening in the Savannah Conference where you have Kano Pillars and must consider Yelwa Hawks, Bauchi Nets and Niger Potters to mention a few".
