RWANDA : KBC on course for 3 on 3 triumph

NATIONAL basketball league champions KBC are on course to bag the 3 on 3 tournament after getting the headway with two wins over the National University of Rwanda (NUR) and CSK.
KBC defeated NUR 9-6 with national team forward Fiston Muhire proving to be the difference with 7 points in the 10 minute game, while Parfait Muvunyi and Sany Niyomugabo grabbed the points as KBC saw off CSK 10-9.
In the women’s fray, APR defeated NUR 9-5 and the military side which recently won the playoffs are favourites to win the competition.
The second phase and finals of the tournament will take place in Bugesera and Kigali respectively this weekend.
Three on three tournament is a new competition is meant to popularize the game of basketball and also spread messages about prevention of malaria in Nyagatare and Bugesera which has been the most hit by the disease.
The winners will walk away with Rwf 250,000, while the first runners-up will get Rwf 200,000 and 150,000 will be given to the third placed team.
The competition and the just ended playoffs are being sponsored by Imbuto Foundation in their campaign to use sports in fighting malaria in the country.
