KENYA : Nairobi basketball team gearing up for Kampala defense

Defending champions of the East Africa Inter Cities Basketball Tournament in the ladies category, Nairobi City are leaving nothing to chance as they prepare to defend their title in the event scheduled to be held from 24th to the 28th April 2012 in Kampala, Uganda.
The team reported to camp on Wednesday at the Railways Club, slightly more than a month before the tourney kicks off.
Speaking to michezoafrika.com, the ladies’ team coach, Sam Oludhe revealed that the process to select the squad that will take part in the competition is already underway.
 According to the coach, the best performing players from different clubs in the national basketball league in which Eagle Wings emerged victorious in the last years tourney will be given priority consideration.
“Right now we have a total number of 14 players.By April we will have a final number of 12 who will make it to Kampala. Last year we had two teams from Nairobi and it was a big squad to manage. We have now opted to constitute one team,” said Oludhe.
Cities expected to participate in the 4-day event include, Kampala as the hosts, Nairobi, Mombasa, Mwanza from Tanzania, Kigali from Rwanda and there could be a surprise inclusion of Juba from South Sudan.
