GAMBIA : GBA Elects New Executive

The Gambia Basketball Association (GBA) on Saturday elected a new executive, tasked to manage the affairs of the sport in the country.
The election held at the Manneh Sillah Basketball court saw Muhammed Papa Njie emerge as President ;Elizabeth Bahoum Mendy, 1st vice President; Ndongo Camara 2nd vice President; Abdoulie Jallow, secretary general; Andrew Jatta, assistant secretary general, while the co- opted members will be Mbahe Camara, Binneh Marong and Pap Sandigi Njie.
Speaking at the meeting, Abdul Aziz Titao Mendy, the development officer at the National Sports Council said the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the NSC deemed it necessary to write to the Association for them to reorganise and restructure the game from its current level.
He then assured the meeting of the Ministry's commitment to take the game including three other games ( volleyball, wrestling and athletics) back to it's glory days.
Samba Faal, the mayor of Banjul who is also a life President of the association told the gathering that for the game to go back to the height it once enjoyed, every stakeholder should participate and contribute towards its development.
The outgoing President of the GBA, Alhaji Mam Essa Gaye, also agreed that reorganizing and the restructuring of the game needs to happen. He urged for a common interest and togetherness to prevail in taking the association to the next level.
On his part, the new president of the GBA, Muhammed Papa Njie thanked everyone who gave him the opportunity to serve basketball in The Gambia, and promised to undertake his duties with principles.
