KENYA : Champions Coop walk past Docks men, KPA ladies silence wings
KPA were no match to defending champions COOP bank in a one sided semi-final game played at the Nyayo gymnasium on Saturday. Conspicuously missing from the dock men side was their star guard Dan Okwiri and forward Fredrick Otieno both whose absence was greatly felt by a KPA side that struggled to match the bankers in the entire game.
The bankers never allowed the visitors chance throughout the game beating them in all at 23-15, 14-13, 20-14 and 25-20 respectively ending the game 82-62 with a great touch of champions blended with experience and skills
The bankers will now KCB Lions who lacked opponents in the semi-finals following the withdrawal of Ulinzi Warriors. Peter Kiganya and Abel Nson each nailed 15 points for the winners while Martin Gitonga bagged 18 points for KPA.
In Mombasa at the Sports Club, coach Antony Ojukwu’s KPA Ladies laid a first finger on this year’s trophy after beating former champions and their last season opponents in the finals 53-46 in a game where the hosts won the first and second quarters at 12-10 and 15-5 but lost the third and fourth 11-14 and 15-17 respectively. They still cannot celebrate juts yet but will wait for the second game on 10th that if they don’t win they extend the finals to the third game. Evergreen guard Hellen Oketch burried 14 points for the dock women while Shani Silale had 12 points for Wings.
