TANZANIA : Tall Order for Minnows As JKT, ABC Cruise in District League
The Temeke District Basketball Championships resumed on Saturday with JKT breezing past Biaz 121-18 at the National indoor Stadium.
JKT, who are the reigning champions of the Dar es Salaam's RBA League, made a bright start to the game, leaving their clueless opponents chasing shadows.
Cheered by a home crowd, JKT ran Biaz ragged to take a convincing 36-5 lead in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the RBA champions picked from where they left and went ahead to score 35-5, taking the score to 44-10 until the halftime break.
JKT extended their lead in the third quarter, scoring 30-4 before wrapping up the win a 10-4 fourth quarter victory.
Mkumbo Mgendi of JKT was the man of the match after scoring 22 points followed by his teammate Frank Kusiga with 18 while Christian Jacob of Biaz notched 14 points.
Saturday's other encounter pitted PTW against Police at the same venue and the former recorded a 83-34 win.
In a late fixture, ABC, who had a below par performance in the Zone V Championships, put Tan Black to the sword, thumping them 137-45.
In Kinondoni, the league also continued on Saturday and highly fancied Oilers had to labour to earn a 46-37 win against the Outsiders.
Pazi, the former RBA League champions gunning to redeem their dented image, registered a crushing 117-34 win over brothers.
Chui were also in action against Hooplife and posted a 54-40 win to keep their qualification hopes for the RBA League on track.
Chui lead the Kinondoni table with eight points followed by Pazi (seven), Outsiders (seven), Oilers (six), Insiders (five) and Hooplife trail with four points.
