Basketball in Africa

Prior to the game, Isaac Afidra wryly told journalists he couldn’t wait to see them take on the Celebrities team at last Friday’s All-Star game. But by the end of their 12-10 win, Uspa had proved they could play the game. Felix Eupal was the pick of the bunch with a series a lay ups that drove YMCA wild but the clown prince of the evening was Michael Kigozi who shot from downtown with what appeared like a wicked throw. Hiphop star Navio was good at crossovers, and nothing nothing else, while KS Alpha huffed and puffed but to no great effect. Patrick Kanyomozi was like a fish out of sea when he stepped on court and could only admire Eupal’s ability inside and outside the paint. In sport, the old adage is that ‘victory hides a multitude of sins while defeat always requires an explanation.’ Uspa are thus not required to make an explanation. The All-Star game was further proof that basketball is going places with a remarkable turn up.
