Hamza Nyambogo was not even supposed to take charge of the 7UP Falcons until the start of the MTN-Fuba League second round on August 26.
He came one game early on Sunday night and the irresistible Falcons scored 24 unanswered points to turn a 12-point deficit into a 79-68 victory over champions DMark Power.
They looked galvanised by the new coach’s ability to rotate stars Abdullahi Ramadhan, Richard Omondi and the now-cleared forward Philip Alweny.
Falcons took the final two periods 20-18 and 32-12 as their relegation fight gathered steam to improve to 4-5 whereas the champions fell to 7-2.
When Isaac Afidra (18) sunk a long three at the start of the fourth quarter 59-47, Falcons looked buried at a quiet YMCA court which had a reasonable crowd. They weren’t!
Alweny’s energy brought a game-high 26 points with Dulah scoring 13 points and 14 assists. Richard Omondi added 19 points despite a slow start.
