KIGALI Basketball Club coach Yves Nkurunziza has challenged his guns to step up their performance after a mediocre first round.
Despite winning six of the eight first round matches, Nkurunziza was sickened by the fact that the defending national men’s league champions lost to arch rivals APR and also forfeited points against CSK.
This meant that they could only finish fourth (13 points), three adrift of table leaders APR.
Speaking after Saturday’s 85-59 victory over Kigali Institute of Education (KIE), Nkurunziza was particularly livid by their forfeited game against CSK.
“The forfeit against CSK really hurt but I’m still backing my team to fight in the second round,” he said.
KBC were fined for fielding an unregistered player Egide Nkusi.
“For one to play in the national league, he or she must be fully registered. At the time, Nkusi wasn’t,” the local basketball governing body (Ferwaba) technical director Didier Shema explained.
