KENYA : Eagle Wings dictate the pace as Lions Roar past champions
Eagle Wings Basketball team extended their win to 16 matches to maintain their top spot on the league table with 33 points. The 2009 champions rolled over students Kenya Polytechnique with relative ease in their weekend match at the Nyayo stadium winning 80-46 with Eunice Ouma contributing 18 points.
In Mombasa, Strathmore Swords’ impressive form was once against bruised when they fell to the defending champions KPA 56-38 in an entertaining encounter played at the KPA hall in Makande.The win over Strathmore(31pts) narrowed the gap between the two sides to one point but KPA(30pts) have two matches in hand having played 16 compared to Strathmore’s 18 matches.
Strathmore Blades also went blunt in Mombasa as the student’s men ‘s team fell to their hosts KPA 64-39 in a tense match that could have gone either way.
In Nairobi at the Nyayo stadium, the ever explosive encounter between the top banking teams lived to its billing but this time KCB came out stronger to roar past the defending champions’ Cooperative bank.
Not even the top form of veterans Peter Kiganya and Abel Nson could save the champions from the wrath of their Arch Rivals KCB who won the match with a ten points gap on 71-61.
The winners of the day KCB took their opponents head on with an ambush grabbing the first quarter at 23-16 before fizzling away to lose the second quarter by two points (15-17).The second period was an entertaining affair with players from both teams exhibiting why they are ranked among the best in Kenya.
